Job Summary
The MEP Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination, and supervision of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems in building and infrastructure projects. The role involves ensuring that all MEP installations are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and compliant with local regulations, international codes, and project specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed designs, layouts, and specifications for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Prepare load calculations, schematics, and technical drawings using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools.
- Ensure MEP designs are aligned with architectural and structural requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate installation, testing, and commissioning of MEP systems.
- Supervise contractors, vendors, and technicians to ensure compliance with approved designs.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure quality.
- Ensure all MEP works comply with Nigerian Building Codes, HSE regulations, and international standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, IPC, etc.).
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Act as the main liaison between architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, and contractors.
- Troubleshoot and resolve post-construction system challenges.
Requirements:
- B.Eng. or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering from a recognized Nigerian institution. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Registration with a professional body like the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years field experience in building construction or real estate development.
- Proficiency in CAD software (like Revit MEP, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc) and load calculation programs (like Trace 700).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address design and layout issues.
- Understanding of building HVAC, piping, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
